they can, depends on what you are looking for in a pet. some can be trained, others sing. Some can be loud, so do plenty of research befor you decide.

Personaly I think birds make great pets. They are by far my favorite. Exspecaly whenn they are well trained and you can play with them. The birds that i have had have been some of my favorite pets. It also depends on who the bird is for. Birds do take alot of care if you want them to be a good pet. So they arent the best pet for a little kid. Birds need alot of T.L.c . So you need to be commited when you decide to get one. Having little children around can be hard. Because the bird is just like a toddler in the attention it will want. Decide what kind you think you want. Then study up on that kind of bird. That will help alot with wether you decide to get one or not. But if you are up to the challenge they will make the best pet ever. But dont do it if you arent dedicated to the bird. Have fun.

birds do make make great pets.but my answer is strictly NO.i have seen lots of the birds in those small little cages wanting to fly away.they r good but they miss the joy of freedom(flying which they r born for)birds look good only in sky.

Birds make great pets. The type of the bird is also important and can really change the maintenence level of the pet. I've had lots of parakeets and loved them! (You want to have at least two, so they are not lonely when you leave the house). Once you get them comfortable with you, (and if you clip their wings--important so they don't fly into walls or fans or other dangerous places and hurt themselves) its great to leave them out. When I was home, I always left the cage open and they loved to climb on top of the cage and sqwak.I also had a cockatiel which was fantastic. You can teach those birds to wistle and imitate sounds (to an extent..and it takes a bit of time). Mine was fantastic...it would walk around the house and follow people whisteling happy birthday. It was great. It also enjoyed being out of the cage and being held (as did the parakeets). I really think that if you have the time to give to your animals, birds can make really great (and happy!) pets.

YES!! ( well to me) I have had my parakeet for a year now, and he has learned to say my name, my brother's name, how to say 'Trick or Treat' (during Halloween!) and now, during Christmas, he can sing 'Jingle Bells!' But I guess you would only like that if you want entertainment from the bird. Other than that, he is great company, and very smart! And he doesn't make a big mess!

Yes, they are great pets. I used to have a pair of lovebirds before and I just kept them in a cage. They make chirping sounds and are quiet most of the time. Having them around and hearing them makes me happy and relaxed.
