I would say a Cockatiel. They are smaller than most. They have little beaks. And they are quite personable.I have had some and even raised, and bred them.Their food isnt very costly either. Have fun, they can be showoffs too.

Depends on what you are looking for. I think that if you want a talking bird parroletts are great. They are about 5 inches tall and have great personalities. In Texas a hand fed one would run you about $125. If you don't want to spend that much then try a parakeet and work your way up.

Hi,
There are many types of birds that makes great pets. You need to look at many factors such as do you have small children in the house who might try touching them, where would you place the bird in the house, time you have to devote to your new pet, the money you are willing to spend... just to name a few. I personally prefer European Gold Finches because they have a wonderful song they sing. The males are the ones who are more brightly colored and sings beautifully. I like getting my birds when they are young so I can tame them to be finger/shoulder birds. When you get an older bird, they tend to be stuck in their own ways at times. I also love most of the birds in the finch family and parrotkeets as home pets.... but you might like differently.
Best of luck in picking your new family member,
Vickie

I think parakeets are great for the novice bird owner. Before you buy, go to the library or bookstore and get a good book about caring for parakeets. Parakeets are great companions!

I think the type of birds you have depends on a couple of factors. How much money you have to spend, and the personality or lifestyle of your family. Some birds are good for some people, while others work best with another type of bird.

For me, love birds are great. I love to watch them every now and then. The only sad thing about love birds is that they kill themselves after the death of their partner.
