This might sound silly but maybe the bird was depressed?!

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that your pet bird died. There are many reasons why he/she could have died. If your other bird died of an illness, maybe the other bird has contracted this illness too. It is always best to clean the cage very good if your bird dies- just in case- if it is feasable. I wish you the best of luck and hope the other bird pulls through.

I think talking to a vet is the best bet. It could be a million things as they say including bird flu. Petsmart recently took all their birds out of the cages due to bird flu. They have been absent from the Weatherford, Texas Petsmart now for a couple of months. So talk to a vet or email Sam Vaughn at aviansam@bellsouth.net Sorry for your loss.

Finches can be hard to keep going. Especially the smaller varieties. Zebra finches are pretty hearty and much easier to take care of. Also be careful of cleaning products anything that contains amonia or bleach like widow cleaners and polishes. Could be food like others have suggested. Age is a problem with these birds. Especially if you got them from a pet store where they are not getting birds from breeders. If weather permits clean the cages outside and rise thoroughly so it can air out before you bring it back inside.
