...was taking really good care of it any idea why it might die? okay umm, i cleaned the cage and fed them regualrily, igave them a calcium bone thing that came w/ them, made sure their water was fresh everyday, i made sure they were just above eye level (which i read was a good thing to do), had them in about the same temperature they were in at the pet store and let them bath in a little bird bath once ina while which was recommended in the booklet i got with them..i had two the other one is still alive (but is acting really weird like wont eat and is just wobbling around on a perch and keeps closing his eyes really hard).. and she was laying down when i found her like on her tummy with her legs out behind her in the corner of the cage.

depends on how old it was. Also the food might have a play in it.

There are so many reasons why a bird can die, please give us a descriptive perspective on this issue (such as time of death, position of the body, etc.) just like CSI huh?!

You might want to add more details to this.1. Did you always feed him REGULARLY?2. Did you always keep his cage clean REGULARLY?3. Did you take him to the vet REGULARLY? Pets are ALOT of work. If you followed all these rules then he probably just died from old age or it was his time to go. Things like this happen sometimes. Sorry for your loss.

It might have died because is was sick ,or because it was just to old. Also maby because is got into something poisonz.

Birds natuarly do not show when they are sick because in the wild predators would pick them out of a group! It may have been sick without you noticing.

My concern is for the one you have now that is acting wobbly and closing its eyes. It sounds to me like bad food (if the food you buy isn't vacuum sealed it can be moldy or stale without you realizing -- buying bulk seed from a feed store is the worst) that's causing poisoning and/or a bacterial infection.First, if you have one of those clip on mite protectors, GET IT OFF THE CAGE. Indoor birds don't need them, and they can poison your bird.If you have the money for an avian vet, you can take her in, but be warned it will be the vet's guess. My avian vet told me that when you have a bird as small as a finch you are treating symptoms, you cannot draw blood or do other tests without stressing them too much.There is an avian vet who will advise -- free -- over email. He is Dr. Sam Vaughn, and his email is aviansam@bellsouth.net. To help you he must know every detail, both of your live finch and the one that died. Include how long you've had them, where you bought them, what they eat.Finches have a shorter lifespan than parrot family birds, but since your second one is acting poorly, there is something going on.

Your second bird might just be reacting to the absense of the first bird - his friend is gone. Second, I wanted to add something about the first bird's death - do you know how old it was when you got it? You can't really be sure of how long it's been in the pet store - I mean how old it was in the pet store and it might have just gotten too old. Not your fault. Perhaps you could buy another one for the second one so he has another friend to play with. Just my thoughts. Sorry to hear about your loss, it's hard to lose a pet. (I've lost four now!)
