...problems? i have a orange tipped amazon and hes about 7 years old, i have been told that birds cause a baby to have big breathing problems. will it harm my newborn grandson to sleep in a room with my parrott with the door closed , hes only gonna be here for 2 week visits?

it absolutely can if the baby is allergic to birds. It is not guaranteed to happen though

Birds, especially older ones, have a lot of dust/fluff adhering to their wings - which gets scattered around whenever they flap their wings ! And their excreta also emit a foul odour, which attracts quite a lot of flies/germs.
Some babies [not all !] are allergic to exposure to such dust, flies and germs - any one of which can cause breathing problems. So, it is always better to be safe than sorry, isn't it ?!

NO. I don't know who told you that but that is rediculous.

At one time, I raised parakeets and entertained the idea of becoming an exotic bird breeder. Hence I managed to meet a lot of bird experts and read every book I could get my hands on about exotic birds. I was most interested in the parrots, lorries, cockatoos, cockateils, Amazon greens, African greys etc. I've got to tell you that I NEVER came across ANYTHING remotely close to something like that.

I've had friends with exotic birds and they had babies(not at the same time ofcourse) and not once did ANYTHING bad happen.

Whoever told you that needs a good tongue lashing.

yes i have also heard about it but i dont know know the reason that how it can happen.it may be because of some transferable diseases.
