I had a rabbit growing up, and we loved it. He was very gentle, and really a good pet for as young as we were. He lived for about 5 years before he passed away, though. Just something to consider with children is the life expectancy of a pet.

We owned bunnies when I was a child and we kept them outside in a cage and took them out usually daily to let them run around. Cleaning their cage was a pain and you also have to bath the bunnies because they tend to get their poop on their feet.

Just a tip in case you end up with two bunnies...make sure you talk to someone you trust as far as telling you the sex of the bunny! One bunny ended up turning into two for our family because I had a sister and we would fight over it...lol.

We trusted the word of who we got them off of at a farm show... I believe they just wanted to get the bunnies off of their hands and she told us they were both females (we couldn't tell because they were so small at the time). We obviously caught on by the time the deed was already done.

SO - Just make sure if you end up with a male and a female and the female gets pregnant to take the male out of the cage because he will kill the babies...it happened to one of ours. The male will get really aggressive around that time.

Since I am a stay at home grandmother that has six cats, I was able to successfully litter box train my first rabbit, Hunny Bunny. She was only six weeks old when she was totally litter pan trained, even using the cats litter pan when she is out running around. The trick to teaching them good toilet habits is to keep them confined for the first couple weeks with the litter pan with oat hay or timmothy hay in the litter pan for them to munch on while they go. Just like some humans like to read a magazine when they sit on the can, rabbits love to munch and that is the easy way to litter pan train a rabbit. She is incredibly clean and never goes on the floor. We spray cords and cables with apple bitter spray so it detours her from chewing. We allow her to have her own chewy devices that we encourage her to munch as chewing is an important part of their daily life. I am amazed and delighted more than I could even know in how well it has turned out for us having a rabbit with all the kitties that love and cuddle her too and my big manx Baby loves to groom Hunny and Sasha snuggles by her and Sweetpea plays chase with her, so, all the kitties do no mind her at all and they get along really well.

if you do get one dont let run in the back yard mt bunny is HUGE!!!!! and it can fit through a 1 cm crack!!!!!!!! i was shocked but if you do put it in your backyard then make sure the fence doesnt have any cracks and the fence goes at least a couple of feet ender the ground
