Default Are cookies bird food dangerous to...

...bunnies??? Yes... my bunny "Wasabai" (full name: Angel Way Flopppy Wasabi, in honor of many things) loves cookies and bird food (she is so weird)!! She is less than 1 year old... I just want to know if the cookies and bird food are dangerous to them... (yeah, I know, Im not supposed to give her cookies... but she likes them!!! and about the bird food... I have some canaries and they split all their food out of the cage... and she eats it!!! If I give to her bird food instead of her rabbit pellets, she would eat it!!!)

As a treat Wasabai could eat a little cookie but watch the seed and not from the cage b/c there may be bird poo or pee in it. Watch the seeds b/c they are fatty and your rabbit doesn't need that. Look for a gourmet rabbit food blend at Petco, Pets Supermarket, Petsmart or whatever your pet store supplier is and mix a little in there now and again. This is healthier than bird seed and save the cookies for an occasional snack. The gourmet blend had various things in it like dried peas and carrots along with pellets...Kaytee makes it...I used to feed this to my gp's, rabbit, mice and rats all the time. Of course, I bought the type for the animal as they vary a little in their content.

Bird food is not good for them, young rabbits will eat anything. Also, cookies could cause serious complications because they are high in fat and protein. You really must be careful what she eats, only veggies should be treats. We feed cookies to the rats, not the rabbits. I have head that bunnies can be given cereal as a treat, but the majority of her diet should be timmothy hay. I have 3 house rabbits.

Hay, green stuff, veggies should be opted for bunnies.Any kind of other meal can lead to complications, usually they are prone to putting on weight. So watch out what kind of feed you are providing to your bunny.
