I like cat names that sound like the name of a British butler: Winston, Hampton, Baxter, Hamilton, Franklin. Good luck with your new cat!

Personality mixed with color, also it would be neat to name him for something so obviosuly *not* blackMajestic? Ra. (Egyptian Sungod), Anubis (Egyptian god of the dead / underworld)Bouncy and Playful? Sunspot, Sunshine, SunnyLazy and Sleepy? CharcoalSkittish and Highstrung? Eclipse (rarely seen), Kitty (cause that's how some cats act / a name of one of my cats from looong ago)Good luck!

We've got 2 black cats ourselves that our kids named. But they were named more for their personality than their color-Ruby, because she carries herself like she's a jeweled princess.Shadow- because he tends to follow the other one around, like her shadow.Others that they considered: Midnight, Fritz, Princess, and some others.

I agree the name will depend on the personality of the cat. You need to really take a few days and watch the cat, you might find a name that goes well with the cat, that you really like.
