Default This a bad idea?

I'm thinking about getting a puppy and I have a cat. What steps should I take so my cat wont try to attack the puppy? Hopefully they'll be best friends but who knows.

Even if they are the best of friends there will be times that your dog might want to play and the cat will not want or the other way around. They will fight at some point but should be ok. I would try it out and if your cat and dog will not get along then you might need to make other plans.

Try to introduce them gradually if at all possible. Cats are very scent-oriented, so if you can introduce the cat to the puppy's blanket before she actually meets the puppy, that may ease the situation somewhat. Other than that, just stay close at hand the first few days so you can scold her if she tries to get after the puppy.

Fantastic idea Jnj. I would have never thought about doing something like this. I will have to keep this in mind. Is it necessary when the dog and cat are both new to the home.

Yes they will certainly be best of friends most of the times. But you won't be having cool handling, at times they will give you real tough time. This used to be in my case also. When feeding time used to be there,my pup won't let the poor cat have it's stuff.
