Default Why cats are so scared of water?

I fail to understand why these poor souls so scared of water.Nothing more bothers a cat than if you pour water on its body. Such a trait we find in other animals also?

Honestly, I have no idea, but now that you bring that up I'm really curious about it as well! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they take care of cleaning themselves by constant licking??

My cats are not afraid of the water because at a young age I started bathing them with a gentle shampoo. As a matter of fact I have 1 kitty, Miss Kallie Kat, who will run & get in the tub as soon as she sees me get out the shampoo & a towel. Just make sure not to turn the water on too hard & use a cup to pour it on the cat. Also, wash their head & ears with a wash cloth. Be sure to rinse the cat completely as the soap will irritate their skin if you don't & use only products that non-toxic to cats since they will lick themselves after being bathed.

One of my cats always loved to jump into the shower. She's also hang on the tap and grab water with her paw.

My other cat would go NUTS if he was anywhere near water - other than a bowl of water for drinking.

when cats feel water, it feels like a weird sensation and new substances/feelings usually scare cats
