Default Dog & Cat bestfriends?

I know someone who has a dog and a cat who get along very well. I don't know how this happened, but she said it's because they grew up together when they were still pups and kittens. Have you heard of such stories?

Well there is less chance for this because I had both dog and cats but never found them as a friends. May it can happen when both grew up together.

Yes I have heard of this, it really depends on the dog and cats and sometimes the breads they are as well. I have known dogs that are full grown and get along with unknown cats as well.

I believe that kittens and puppies that "grow up together" are more likely to have a stable relationship than adult animals introduced to one another later in life for several reasons. Young animals are like children - they are much more easily adapted to new things than those animals who are used to a certain life and routine. In addition, if they have never known anything different (ie, never been the only pet), they rapidly adapt to sharing the home. They are much less territorial if introduced to the home together than separately, which reduces conflict. I agree with attagirl - sometimes it does depend on the individual animal (as we all know they have varied personalities) and breeds. It is important to remember to introduce new animals into the home slowly to minimize conflict. You can introduce animals with a door in between them, for example, so they can get used to each other's smells without one being afraid. From experience, most cats and dogs learn to get along very well while living in the same house in a fairly short period of time.

Yes I have heard of such stories seing as my cats and dogs are always together and are best friends. When the mum could not feed milk anymore the female dog took over and fed the kittens it was a lovely picture.

All 3 of our dogs are actually best friends with the goats. It's kind of funny and cute all at the same time. Our friends and family can't get over it. Our dogs were about a year old when we got the goats. They always want to be with eachother.

My Pug and 2 of our cats always cuddle and play with eachother too.

Yeah all my cats and dogs grew up with one another and they all rub on each other and sleep curled up beside each other. It's so cute. One of my dog's even let's the cats eat it's food. But when the neighbor dogs coming over and chase my cats my other dogs do the same.

There are some situations wherein dogs and cats could be best friends. I have seen a lot of that. And just like kids, if they grew up together, they will really get along well.
