Default daschund - Health problems?

I currently own a daschund and have heard lots of bad stories pertaining to their health? Does anyone know some of these deseases that can hurt the dog? Also, does anyone know some ways to keep them away from these deseases?

My mom has one and the little fellow has a heart problem. She took it to the vet and he gave her medicine to help it. The explanation he gave was because it acquired things such as worms, etc. from growing up in an unsanitary environment. That's not confirmed because she did purchase the dog from a newspaper ad.

I used to own a daschund. When I bought her, she looked very healthy. But then after how many months, she died. They said that she had an infection even before I bought her. It was kinda depressing because I concluded that she's healthy. Parvo virus is the best enemy of dogs. It can really kill even if you take good care of them.
