Default Do you own cows?

I have 2 cows and I have had a terrible time keeping them inside the fence. They seem to just walk right through the fence. Any certain techniques to keep them in besides making sure they have grass or hay?

I don't have any cows, but I can definitely sympathize. We had a neighbor who that always happened to. Funny thing was, he lived like a mile away and the cows would always travel that far up to our house on the dirt road we lived on.

I have had cows before. We used to raise them.

The best way to keep them in is with a very strong fence that's too tall for them to step over. They WILL try to step over or push down a fence, and sometimes they succeed!

Yeah I'd advise just putting up a strong fence and make sure they have plenty of grass to graze on. Many cows just try to push it down for the green grass on the other side. You could put them in a barn at night too to make sure they do not get out on you. Plus installing an electric fence works wonders and does keep other animals out.

They will push down the fence even when they have plenty of lush grass on their own side. They are convinced that the grass is always greener on the other side.

I have a two year old Angus (Barney) and being 500kg he certainly tests the fences. People suggest Electric fencing is the only way to go, but we have perservered without and he only gets out every few months and goes nowhere fast....
