When you do water changes for a heated tank how do you heat the water that you are adding so that you don't shock the fish?

If you use water from the tap, just add a little hot water in there until the temperature is right. If you only use filtered water then heat it up on your stove top and use a thermometer. I always found it easier to use water from the tap and then treat it...less costly as well! As long as you don't change too much water at the same time, there is less chance of shocking your fish!

Well I used filtered water so I have to heat up on stove. I never used water from tap but as you told it is cheaper than I may use it.

OH yeah, and much easier than having to haul huge containers of water from the store (unless you get delivery?)...but they do sell the chlorine neutralizer. I used it and my fish never had a problem. You just fill up your water containers, put the drops in and let it sit overnight. You can then heat up the water on the stove to match the temperature in your tank...sorry about earlier post. You can't exactly use hot water from the tap, since it needs to sit for awhile after you add the chlorine neutralizer (and it would have cooled off)!

Good question! I have always had fish that are at room temperature and never thought about it before. I would like to get some tropical fish one day.

Water changes must be done once a week . You mush chance 1/3 of the water every week thy to get the fresh water to the temperature of the water from your tank so the fishes don't have a shock. After that put some anti-infectious solutions not much just to desinfect the fresh water.

Changing water in your tank would highly depend on the size of your tank and the type of filter you use. If you are using a 75 gallon tank like me with a good overhead and under gravel filter you don’t need to keep on changing water. You should only change 30% of the water of your tank if you really need to do so and for the heating I installed a water heater for my tank so I can easily get the correct temperature.

It is so very important to maintain the fish tank.Basically it is seriously impossible to have fish without complications,though complications are peanuts with respect to the cute little fish.

I think it is never advisable to use a tap water because it is not healthy. But most likely if you do, then maybe twice a month.
