Default Taking in hurt animals

I wanted to know if you have ever taken in hurt animals and if so, how have they adjusted to living in your home? I want to do this and am not sure if it is going to be good for them.

Well I have often taken in hurt pets. When I was young I used to take in anything the cats would harm (mice, moles...) but I realized that it only made things worse. First the animal would suffer like hell an second it's just natural for cats to eat...well anything that moves really^^. I once took in a badly hurt owl wich got better and I put him back in the nature no problem. One cat had been nocked over by a car and was dying so I took him in and tried to help him but the owners didn't care about him so they prefered to put him down. A part from that I can't really think of anything else.

The only time my family took in an animal was a baby kitten that was somehow separated from his mommy. We heard something crying and found him in a ditch. He hadn't even been weaned yet, so we used a dolls bottle to feed him. He was the cutest thing, but we did eventually let him loose once he was old enough to survive on his own.

In general, I would not advise anyone take in an injured wild animal (ie, birds) to try and save it. First of all, many baby birds that appeared injured/are alone may actually just be learning to fly, and by interfering you are preventing normal behaviour. Second, it is illegal to keep wild animals as pets. If it is a domesticated animal (ie, a hurt kitten), bring it to your local veterinarian/SPCA who will take care of it and put it up for adoption provided it is economically feasible. If you see injured wildlife and are sure that they truly need human intervention, call your local wildlife authority who will take the animal to a rehabilitation center.

I took in a cat once and I tried to patch him up because it was late at night and the vet didn't want to come round. Unfortenately it died a few days afterwards. It had been hit by a car and the vet couldn't do anything to help.

I hurts so bad to see a stray animal along the road because I have such a huge heart. If I had it my way I would have over 300 pets. I have only taken in one injured animal though and it was a cat. Poor thing was starving and I couldn't help but to take it home with me.

I have not taken in injured animals because I am afraid it would upset the balance in our home. All our animals get along with each other, and everyone is happy. We do have a great local rescue shelter, so they get a call if I know of a stray or injured animal.

Taking in hurt animals is okay as long as you know how to be responsible. And make sure that no one owns them or if you think they belong to someone, try to look for the owner. At least you've been a good samaritan.

Sometimes it is difficult to take in hurt animals because you are not quite sure just what their needs might be. I know I have had a hard time sometimes. I try to help the ones I can and some that I cannot always help I try to get to someone who can help them.

When I was little, there was a dear that had been hurt and stuck in a ditch so we cared for it and eventually he grew up and went to live with others like him, heh.
