Default Pet Health Care

I was wondering what type of pet health care do you use. What I mean is how often do you take your pet to the vet for checkups? Do you only take them when they appear to be sick? those types of things.

First of all, I would like to underline that I'm not a vet. But this is the way I see it: I think it's really important to go as soon as possible to a vet when you notice your animal appears to be sick. Almost every time I'm working at the animal clinic, there are cases in wich the owners obviously have waited (far) too long to take their sick animails to the clinic. Sometimes it has serious consequences, while the problem could have been easely solved if they had come immidiately... Secondly, it's important to take your pet to the vet for checks when they're recovering from an operation (especially when the wound is not healing very well, when there appear complications or when he/she is acting strange) and of course when the animal is suffering from a chronical problem. I also believe it's no bad idea to do a check up when you're planning to go on a trip etc. It's useful to ask for a check up when your pet has to visit the vet for vaccination anyway. Furthermore I think extra checks will often cause stress to the animal, when they get their checks with their vaccinations I think that would be enough to foresee serious health problems.

I do have standard checkups for my pets, along with making sure they are up to date with shots, just as I would the kids. There are somethings that you can do to make your pets happier and live longer, so I am proactive in that sense.

My dogs have complete shots. But I really can not give them enough time for grooming because they are too many and I really don't have the time to groom them..
