Because they make more money for their employers than the average American citizen. Sadly we use money to measure the value of almost everything these days.

You must be aware that lot of money is involved in horse racing.Then the creature who is going to run the whole show needs to be taken care of,fed the best possible way and provided the best of health services.The owner,puts all efforts to get the best of the results.
