Default Horse Veterinarian?

I'm looking for a horse vet to do a vet check in the La Plata/Waldorf, Maryland area. Anyone know of any?
I also don't have a farrier as I'm looking at the horse so there's really no one I can ask. The phone book offers vets, however it does not specify which are horse vets, etc.

Ask your Farier (shoer) there are alot of horse owners out where you live. You can also check the vet section of your phone book and make a couple calls, of course you would want one that makes house calls it is a lot more convenient.

If you can't easily tell which vets see horses, I would call one and see if they know who in the area does large animal work. The clinic where I work's ad in the phone book has a horse on it, so it's obvious, but the wording says what animals we treat. You may also want to ask around to the different farms in the area to see who they use. There are distinct differences in personality and ability to handle animals that other horse owners may be able to share with you. As mentioned, a good vet can recommend good farriers in the area as well. Best of luck...
