Default Turtles

I have a new roommate moving in and she has two turtles. They have lived for about three years and are really cute. She says that they will get as big as you let them. If you keep putting them into bigger tanks they will grow to the size of their environment. Is this true?

I think it depends on the species. Some turtles get very large, and some stay pretty small.

Do you know what kind of turtles they are?

My aunt purchased a turtle from a pet shop in Myrtle Beach on vacation and it was a pretty small turtle and she's probably had it for two years and haven't really seen any difference in size.

Yes your right it depend on the species just think about the Galapagos turtle lives for 2-400 years they are the biggest turtle specie on in the world, and then think the pet shop turtles the max size is about 30 cm. And yes they adapt to the place it lives but the growing dose not stop it slows down.

I found this for you:

"Many aquatic turtles (sliders, cooters, maps, painteds, etc.), the male will put their front claws by the side of their head and wave (vibrate) it back and forth quickly. They often to this tio attract females, but also as a sign of dominance.

I don't know if you'd call it practice, but males will constantly try to mount females, whether either one is mature or not. Some can call it practice and some call it persistence. lol

I have kept over 75 turtles and tortoises"
