I'm curious how long veterinary studies take on the other side of the ocean

Here in Belgium (and in the Netherlands) it takes 6 years to become a vet (at university). And then you might end up unemployed because there are so many vet's already. Isn't that a problem over there? In the Netherlands there is even a maximum veterinairy students allowed each year. I think it's also a very romanticized job, but based on my own experience in the animal clinic it's definitly not easy being (and becoming) a vet. You have to make very hard decisions once in a while. What's your motivation to become a vet (except for loving pets

)? I hope I can work with animals for a living as well, but I have chosen to do an other study (Agro- and Biotechnology, specialization animalcare) so I've got more opportunity's after I graduate. Aren't there any other studies you can follow to be able to work with animals over there?
