Default Is anyone familiar with herpetic...

...keratitis? My cat has been reffered by vet to specialist in eye problems.? My cat is 5 years old, indoor only cat.Had an upper respiratory infection, which has subsided after treatment by our regular vet. The vet suggeseted we see a specialist who will see him on Monday for his eye problem. He suspects the virus. I wondered if anyone has experienced this virus in their pet and could provide some insight.

yes my cat had herpetic keratitis about 3 years ago when she was about a year and a half old. The reason your cat probably got this is because of having an upper respiratory infection, another common cause is alot of stress. Your cat should be fine about a week to a month after you got to the specialist, and it is really great thing that you got it in really soon. I hope your cat gets better soon.

This virus is usually treatable and should go away with proper meds, usually eye ointment. The only bummer is that it may recur with stress or illness. But your kitty should live a long and healthy life as this isn't a life threatening virus.
